BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The ordinary meeting of the Borough Council was held in the Town Hall, on Monday evening; present—. His Worship the Mavoi- (11. Burger, Esq.),

Councillors Fitzsimons, Davies, Anderson, aud Maloney. The'minntes of ihe ordinary meeting held on 23rd January, and special meeting held on 30th January, were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. The inward correspondence was iead and received. This consisted of two telegrams, one from the Hon. W. J. M. Larnach, Minister of Mines, and the other from the Hon. R. Stout, Premier, relative to tlvir arrival in Kumara, and which have been already published in this journal; also the following memoranda from the Tteasury, Wellington : "Abstract of Report of the Goldfields and Mines Committee of the House of Representatives on the Petition of—- " 92, Session I.—Mayor and Burgesses of Kumara: "18, Session ll.—William Morris and others: " Recommends that the price charged for water by the Kumara Water-Race should be reduced. " F. E. Campbell, " Clerk of the House of Representatives. «10th October, 1884." On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Fitzsimons it was resolved—" That a Committee of the whole Council co-operate with the Reception Committee for the purpose of receiving Ministers, and that such committee have power to act." On tho motion of the Mayor, seconded Cr. Davies, it was resolved that the foregoing "Abstract of Report of Goldfields and Mines Committee" be handed over to the Reception Committee. The Town Clerk read tho Public Works Committee's Report, as follows : PUBLIC WORKS REPORT. Present—Cr. Campbell (Chairman), the Mayor, Crs. Mulvihill and Fitzsimons. Tenders were opened for the Extension of Third street, as follows:—J. Stone, £7; G. M. Stewart, £7 15s, and £2 extra for drain; Hurrin and Queale, £9 15s, and 35s for drain ; J. Blake, £lB 10s, including drain; James Watts, £ls, including drain ; J. Whelan, £l4, including drain. 1. The Committee recommend that Mr Stone's tender be accepted, subject to his putting in a box and cutting drain, according to specifications, for the sum of £llss extra. 2. Resolved—That it be ascertained if a right-of-way exists adjoining Mr Denfield's section, and if it does, that the Committee recommend that a track be made in accordance with the application of Reynolds and others, at a cost not to exceed £5. The report was received and adopted, and it having been ascertained that a right-of-way does adjoin Mr Denfield's section, the Public Works Committee were authorised to have the track recommended made at once. The Town Clerk then read the Finance .Committee's Report. It recommended the granting of a gratuity of one guinea to Mrs N. Seddon, caretaker, for extra services during the past year, and the payment of accounts amounting to £3l 4s 2d. The report was adopted. The Borough Inspector's Report was read and received. Tenders were then opened for building a Tank in Seddon street, at its junction with Fifth street, as follows : Carlo Marra and B. Calenchin, £74; Brown and GVebar, £67 17s; T. Oliver, £53 15s; G. M, Stewart, without pipe material £44 10s 6d. The tender of Thos. Oliver was accepted. The Mayor reported that the sura of £5 had been received from Mr Woodyear, for the use of the Recreation Ground two nights for his Circus. The report was received and the Public Works Committee were authorised to effect any necessary repairs to the ground. This concluded the business.
