The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 10, 1885.

A public meeting is called by his Worship the Mayor to be held in the Town Hall this evening for the purpose of forming a committee of gentlemen to determine as to the most desirable way of bringing the requirements of this district most forcibly before the Premier and the Minister of Mines. The Borough Council held its ordinary meeting last evening and resolved that a committee of the whole Council should co-operate with the gentlemen who may be chosen to-night, so that there is reason to hope that a strong committee will be formed for giving a suitable reception to Ministers and of stating what this district is in urgent need of. A very interesting little document was read at the meeting of the Council last evening, which only came into the possession of the Mayor two days ago. It is as follows : Abstract of Report of the Goldfields and Mines Committee of the House of Representatives on the Petition of—--92, Session L—Mayor and Burgesses of Kumara: 18, Session ll.—William Morris and others: Recommends that the price charged for water by the Kumara Water-Race should be reduced. F. E. Campbell, Clerk of the House of Representatives. 10th October, 1884. This report, it was resolved, should be handed to the Reception Committee which will be formed this evening. The Ministerial party are expected to pass through Kumara on their way to Hokitika to-morrow afternoon ; but the official visit here will not be made till Saturday next.
