WOODYEAR'S CIRCUS.
A very large concourse of people gathered last night within Mr Woodyear's large marquee, erected on the Recreation Grouud, to witness the really grand equestrian show, and the various performances of this large troupe of artists and gymnasts. It is accompanied by an excellent little brass band, who played through the town in the morning, and at the circus almost continuously just before and during the performances. The programme "com. menced with an equestrian quadrille, which testified to the excellent training the eight horses and their riders had been subjected to, and went through with comparative ease. Messrs Shiels and Consens gave specimens of daring skill and feats in mounting horses and horsemanship generally, and were loudly applauded. The daring trapeze performances of Miss Ruby Scaradale were much admired, and the youn« lady received satisfactory demonstrations of the same from the audience. The clowns, Max Rinkle and Cuscoj are about the best we remember to have seen in Kumara; they are always about; their jokes are new and good, and always in keeping with the spirit of the performances, aud add immensely to the fun. The pony Sultan is a prodigy of what training will do. Morini, the dumb clown, amused the audience with his drolleries, and was particulary good in the French ballet which wouud up the performance. The Circus will open again this evening, for the last time, when a change of performance is announced. It may be mentioned that particular care has been taken by Mr Woodyear in erecting the seats to have them firmly fixed, aud there need be no apprehension of any collapse, as has been experienced on former occasions.
The company perform at Greymouth on Monday and Tuesday next.
