RATES OF POSTAGE VIA SUEZ AND BRINDISI.
By an order in Council dated 28th October, 1884, the rates of postage on correspondence transmitted via Suez and Brindisi are in future to be as follow ia t, on and after the fifteenth day of November next, the rate of postage to be paid on all letters, book-packets, and newspapers transmitted from New Zealand to any. place in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland by way of Suez and Brindisi shall be and the same is hereby fixed as herein set forth, that is to say—
On all letters, one shilling per halfounce or fraction of half an ounce ■ On all book-packets and parcels’ threepence for every two ounces or fraction of two ounces ; On all newspapers, twopence each. The said postage shall, in all such cases, be prepaid in New Zealand by postagestamps, to be affixed upon the covers°of tle letters, book packets, or newspapers so sent.
. ?■_ 011 all correspondence received in JS e'W Zealand in mails despatched from the United Kingdom on and after the date aforesaid, and which has not been prepaid in postage-stamps at the foregoing rates, a surcharge equal to the equivalent ot the difference between the rates aforesaid and the postage actually affixed to the correspondence shall be niade. The said postage shall be payable on all such letters, book-packets, and newspapers on delivery in the colony to the pasouse 1 to whom the same are addressed.
