The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. TUESDAY, JANUARY 13, 1885.

The special meeting of subscribers to the Hospital, to receive accounts and to nominate a new committee of management will be held at the Town Hall this .evening, at 8.30 o’clock. It is to be hoped there will be a large attendance of subscribers, as it is most desirable that a committee may be nominated and elected who will have the entire confidence of the public to deal with the important matters in reference to the Hospital which are now agitating this community. A meeting of the outgoing Committee will be held at 8 p.m. We regret to record the decease of Miss Florence Ada Skilton, which took place at Hokitika at three o’clock this morning. The young lady has been on the bed of affliction for many months past, but she bore her long and painful illness with great patience and resignation. She was loved and admired by all who had the least acquaintance with her, and her loss will not only be felt by her sorrowing parents but by a very large circle of friends. The funeral is announced for Friday next. Gentlemen desirous of participating in the celebration of the anniversary of the birthday of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet, are reminded that a meeting will be held at the Globe Hotel, Dillman’s, this evening, at 8 o’clock, to make arrangements for that purpose. The coach for Christchurch this morning carried a full complement of passengers. Among them was Miss Wylde, who leaves her father’s house for the last time a virgin, being now on a journey to Leeston, where resides the gentleman to whom she is about to be married. There were also a number of English and other tourists, who have been visiting the West Coast. Mr G. W, Moss, of Greymouth, was also a passenger. We have received from Mr Bonar, the local agent, the Northern Fire and Life Assurance and the Imperial Fire Insurance Companies Office Calendars for 1885. Mr Duncan Macfarlane, R.M., has been appointed a Warden for the Westland mining district. The steamers Omapere and Kawatiri were lying in the Grey roadstead all yesterday, and are expected in to-day. The s.s. Maori, with the dredge in tow, after anchoring under shelter of the Steeples, in the course of yesterday picked up her anchor and went back to Westport. The tug Dispatch also went in there for shelter. Should there be a favorable change in the weather, the Argus expects to see all three off Greymouth this afternoon. Subscribers for the “Practical Home Physician ” are informed that Mr Wilkinson will not be able to arrive in Kuraara with his consignment of books until about the Ist of February.
