THE ROSS RACES. THE AUCKLAND STEEPLECHASE. [united press association.! Ross, January 9. The Totara Jockey Club’s first day’s racing took place to-day. Trial Stakes—Wanderer, 1 ; Barney, Midsummer Handicap Wanderer, 1 ; Elfin King, 2. Hurdle Race—Harkaway, 1: Levant, 2. District Handicap—Elfin King, 1. January 11. The second day’s racing of the Totara Jockey Club took place yesterdav. The Hurdle Race was won easily by Harkaway ; Black Prince, 2. Cedar Creek Handicap—Little Dick, 1 ; Elfin King, 2. Consolation Stakes Barney, 1 • Leonard, 2. Auckland, January 11. It is understood Pilbroo and Maxwell, owners of Clarence and Sunray, have sent letters to Stewards claiming the stake for the steeplechase. The matter was before the Stewards yesterday, but their future action in the matter has not transpired. Weston, has already teceived his cheque for Linwood’s Victory.
