In our report on Saturday of the proceedings at the Warden’s Court on Friday, it was stated that “ the application of Joseph Meade and others for an extended claim, objected to by Isbister and party, M‘Masters and party, and M‘Kenzie and party, was refused.” The last word should have read adjourned.

The news of the death of Mr D. W, Virtue’s daughter, which took place yesterday, will be heard with regret. The young lady has been ailing for some time past, but her decease was sudden. Great sympathy is felt for her bereaved parents. The Children’s Picnic Committee meet at the Town Hall at 8 o’clock this evening, All accounts must be sent in bv 6 p.m.

The special meeting of subscribers to the Hospital, to receive accounts and to nominate a new committee of management will be held at the Town Hall tomorrow at 8.30 p.m.

The admirers of Burns, the Scottish National Poet, who are desirous of celebrating the forthcoming anniversary are requested to meet at the Globe Hotel, Dillman’s Town, to-morrow evening, at 8 o’clock.

Miss Elizabeth Harris, of the Addison’s school, and Master Maloney, of the Charleston Boys’ School, have been successful in winning two of the Nelson Board’s scholarships.

The Government Insurance Department has taken up the balance of the South Invercargill municipal loan at £4OOO at par.

Newcastle sent 597 tons of coal to New Guinea the other week.
