VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.

The monthly meeting of the Volunteer Fire Brigade was held in the Town Hall, on Wednesday evening; present— Captain Barger, Lieut. M'Ewen, Branchman Brayshaw, Firemen Orams, Geraghty, Schulstad, Anderson, Sumsion, Orams, Rudkin, Smith, Hannah, Fitzsimons, Stevenson, and Secretary Close.

The minutes of the previous monthly practice aud special meetings were read and confirmed.

It was resolved to write to the Borough Council asking for the halfyearly subsidy, due August, 1884. The Treasurer’s balance amounted to £3 16s Bd.

Accounts to the amount of £l4 17s were passed for payment. The committee appointed to revise the roll, entrance fee, and alteration of rules gave in their report, which was received, considered, and dealt with. The engine-keeper was instructed to get the necessary repairs done to crossbar on pole of engine, and to the hose reel, which had been slightly damaged. A proposal to discontinue paying into the members’ fund, and that it be divided, was lost. The sura of £lB was voted from the members’ fund towards defraying the expenses of the team who intend going to Dunedin.

It was resolved that the team to go to Dunedin be composed of the following members;—Lieut. M'Ewen, Brayshaw, Sch ulstad, Smith, Anderson, with Greenwood as emergency man • aud in the event of any of them not being able to go, the choice of a substitute be left in the hands of the team. The nomination of officers for the ensuing year was then proceeded with. The election will take place at the next monthly meeting. A committee was 'appointed to consider the best way of celebrating the annual meeting—and to report to next meeting; said committee to consist of Captain Burger, Geraghty, Grams, Hannah, and Anderson. Lieut, M'Ewen was appointed as delegate to the Association meeting to be held in Dunedin.

Members subscriptions were handed in to the amount of 255. This concluded the business of the meeting.
