[united press association.] Dunedin, January 3. Gerald Fitzgerald was brought up at the police court charged with the murder of William Meldrum, at Nenthorne, and committed for trial. Auckland, January 3. John Patterson, who was injured at the races on New Year’s day, has died of the injuries. To-day a man named Fish was found drowned at Dargaville. He has been missing since the Mangawhare races. Barbary, injured at yesterday’s steeplechase, was shot. LOSS OF THE BRIG ANNABEL. Auckland, January 3. The brig Annabel is ashore on Tory shoal, Kaipara heads. She was coming in yesterday afternoon with a south-east wind, and missed stays and went on the shoal just at sundown. The crew landed in safety at the pilot station. The vessel was bound from Sydney to Tekopuru to load with timber.
