CHRISTMAS SPORTS.

The Christmas sports at the Recreation Ground were continued and concluded yesterday. The weather, though cloudy, held fine till about five o'clock in the evening, and during a Boys' Wrestling Match, which was the principal feature of: the afternoon, a smart shower came on. The Brass Band made their appearance on the ground at abont two o'clock. The attendance of the public was small. The following events were contested : Handicap Vaulting with Pole.— First prize, £3 ; secoi.d, £1 10s; third, 10s. This brought six competitors to the horizontal bar—J. Murtha and R. Bel!, scratch ; F. Smith, J. M'Cready, and C.Muitha, 4in.; and C. Geblmrdt, Sin. It resulted— J. Murtha, Oft. 3-Jin 1 M'Cready, Oft. 2in. (including 4in. handicap) ... ... ... 2 Smith, Ofc. (including 4in. handicap) 3 For the Tug-of-War only three teams were made up, under the captaincy of Messrs George Morris, William Barnett, and Patrick Chamber's:. The prize (£10) was takan by Morris's team. The most interesting of the events in the whole meeting was a Boys' Wrestling Match; for Boys under 18 years of age.—First prize, 15s ; second, 7s 6d ; third, ss; fourth, 2s 6d. Eleven competed. The first round resulted as follows: Evenden defeated Fitzsimons. Surgenor „ Robinson. Upham „ Fitz-dmons. Jones „ Howe. Gebhardt „ Campbell. Thompson. Evenden defeated Surgenor, after a long and very tough contest, taking first prize, Surgenor second. J. Jones took third prize, and Gebhardt fourth. This concluded the sports.
