PEDESTRIANISM.
MATCH BETWEEN HANCOCK AND SCOTT. A twenty-four hours' walking match has been arranged between the English champion Hancock, who lately arrived at Dunedin by the Manapouri, and Young Scott of that city. The exact date for the contest has not been fixed, but it is to come off some time next month. The Herald says : some time Mr A. Austin, of this city, has had a standing offer in the Australian papers to give any man coming from England or Australia £IOO if he could defeat Scott in a twenty-four hours' walking match. Hancock comes hern in response to this offer. young man, and is a splendid specimen of an athlete. He looks fully capable of having made the English records with which he is credited. The match will partake of an international character, Scott's easy defeat of Edwards in a twenty-four hours' match entitling him to first place south of the Line, while Hancock at the time ho left Home was admitted on ail hands to bo the best twelve-hours man of the day."
