The Eight Hon. and Most Rev. Lord Plunket, Bishop of Meath, has been appointed to the Archbishopric of Dublin, vacant by the resignation of Dr. Trench. Bombay, December 19. The Marquis of Ripon arrived here to-day en route to Eugknd. His Excellency was accorded a splendid farewell reception, and numerous addresses were presented. Paris, December 18. Cholera has again appeared in this city, [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE.] London, December 5. It has now been ascertained that there are 21 survivors from the ship Berengaria, which ran ashore and was wrecked on Monday, off the Essex coast while bound from Melbourne to Sunderland. The captain and ten of the crew are still missing. Twelve Chinese warships have been dispatched to relieve the island of Formosa, where the French have seized and occupied the ports of Kelung and Tamsui. Several of these vessels are officered by Germans. The German Reichstag has repealed the law empowering the authorities to expel priests from the Empire. Bismarck was opposed to the repeal, and on the decision of the Chamber being known he denounced the principle of Parliamentary Government, and declined to reconsider the decision arrived at. If is probable that the Emperor will exercise his power of veto in the matter. December 7. Numbers of diamonds recently received in London as the produce of the Australian diamond fields, have been examined and tested by experts, and were pronounced to be of a superior quality to the Cape diamond. December 8. The bill for the extension of the Franchise which passed the House of Lords on Friday has received the Royal assent. The announcement that cholera had broken nut among the sailors with the French fleet at Hong-Kong has so far not been confirmed.
