[united press association.] Wellington, December 11. A Gazette notice re increased charges of postage imposed on Brindisi letters appears to-night. December 12. Sir Julius Yogel lias instructed his solicitors to proceed against the New Zealand Times for the long series of alleged libels in which it has indulged respecting him. The proprietors will be served with a writ for £IO,OOO as soon as the declaration can be put in form. Messrs Stafford, Buckley, and Fitzherbert will act as solicitors for Sir Julius Vogel and the Attorney-General has been retained. At the Magistrate's Court to-day, Waring Taylor was further charged with converting to his own use two sums of £760 10s each belonging to the May estate. It is notified that all applications for awards of the Royal Humane Society of Australasia for meritorious service in saving lifo performed in New Zealand must be made through the Government. Dunedin, December 12. Hancock, the English pedestrian, who arrived from Australia a few days ago, has arranged a match with young Scott. The arrangement is that if Hancock beats Scott in a twenty-four hours' walk, Mr Austin will give him £IOO. The following is a list of the brigades who intend entering for the forthcomFire Brigades demonstration received up to date :—Auckland, GrahamstowD, Napier, Spit, Masteiton, Wellington, New Plymouth, Wanganui, Christchurch City, Christchurch Railway, Lyttelton, Tiraaru, Port Chalmers, Duuedin City, South Dunedin, Roslyn, Hokitika, and Kumara.
