All the colonies except "Victoria have declined to double the proposed contributions for New Guinea. The Government of Victoria, moreover, is disinclined to agree to it without information from Lord Derby. A pamphlet written by Mr E. G. Fitzgibbon, Town Clerk of Melbourne, in refutation of Henry George's " Progress and Poverty," has been well received here, and a third edition is now being sold.
