(Received November 1, 2.15 p.m.) Cairo, October 31. Intelligence is to hand from WadyHalfa that the Canadians have arrived there, and are now passing fifty boats daily over the second cataract, and the troops are proceeding up the Nile with the utmost despatch. (Received November 3, 0.40 a.m.) November 1. A telegram has been received from Sir E. W. "Wilson, head of the intelligence department attached to Lord Wolseley's staff, stating that he has received a report which he believes to be true to the effect that the Mahdi's forces attacked General Gordon, opposite Khartoum, and were repulsed with heavy loss. (Received November 3, 11.30 a.m.) November 2. Lord Wolseley and staff have arrived at Dongola.
