[united press association.] Nelson, October 31. A man named John Gray, aged 40 years, received such injaries from a charge of dynamite suddenly exploding while working at Wangamoa road, that he died a few hours later. An inquest was held and a verdict of accidental death was returned. At the Supreme Court to-day, Hugh Jones was found guilty on two charges of embezzling and of appropriating sums of money belonging to the Great Republic Gold Mining Company, and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on both charges, sentences to be concurrent. Professor Martin Swallow, a leading musician, was charged at the police court to-day with indecent assault on a male person named M'Lean, and also with soliciting one, Kay, to commit an indecent assault. Prisoner was remanded. Bail amounting to £2OO was demanded. New Plymouth, October 31. At the Supreme Court, Henry Calder, who was found guilty of embezzling money when Postmaster at Parihaka, was sentenced to three years' penal servitude. Palmerston North, October 31. The body of the lad M'Kenzie, who was drowned with Fitzsimmons on the 18th inst., was found in the Manawatu River, jost below the railway bridge, this morning, by the lad's father.
