Auckland, October S. A Taviuna planter named Rankin Wilson has been committed to trial on a charge of manslaughter of a Polynesian laborer in his employ. The laborer died in a fit some time after having received a slap on the ear from Wilson. The post mortem showed that there was aa abscess on the brain sufficient to account for death, but it is suspected that the slap accelerated the result. The prisoner was admitted to bail, sureties being allowed for £IOOO. A Fijian has been arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of a Chinaman named Ah Pon in 1880.
