[united press association.] Auckland, October 3. While playing about a cmoe in Waikato river, a boy, Harold Brook, aged seven, fell into the water and was pluekily rescued by a little girl, named Martha Davis, who was in the canoe at the time. On the boy rising to the surface she caught him by the hand and held him above water until assistance came. A blacksmith named Michael Heffernon, was kicked about the head in his stable by his horse, and lies in the hospital in a critical condition,
A man named Merritt was arrested on account of his extraordinary conduct in a public street. A loaded revolver was found on him and £162. Drink is believed to be the exciting cause. Henry Mitchell, of Hikurangi, Wangarei County, who had twice before attempted suicide, completed his purpose at Kamo yesterday by cutting hia throat.
