Sailed this afternoon, the Union steamship Tarawera, for the Bluff. Broker has been scratched for the V.R.C. Derby. (Received September 17, 1.15 p.m.) Sydney, September 17. Further caßes of small-pox have occurred in Kent street, in the heart of the city, and eight persons have been placed in quarantine. It has transpired that Government has given notice to the Pacific Mail Company to terminate the San Francisco mail contract in November next, but that the service will be continued for the full term of two years, that is, until November, 1885. (Received September 17, 2.15 p.m.) Adelaide, September 17. Intelligence is to hand from the Northern Territory that a party of police followed and came up with the blacks who recently attacked a party of miners, and that in an engagement which took place four blacks were killed.
