EXCLUSION OF FRENCH CRIMINALS FROM THE COLONIES. (Received September 13, 4.30 p.m.) Sydney, September 13. Another case of small-pox has broken out in this city. Twelve persons are now suffering from the disease. (Received September 15, 12.30 p.m.) September 15. Arrived, last evening, the Rotomahana. Several small-pox patients are to be released from quarantine to-day, no fresh cases having occurred at the station. (Received September 15, 0.55 a.m.) Hobart, September 10. The New Zealand Company's steamship Aorangi arrived to-day from Plymouth, en route for New Zealand. Melbourne, September 14. Arrived, the steamship ShannoD, this morning, with the inward Brindisi mail, dated London, August 8. The Hon. Mr Service has written to the Premiers of the various colonies to inquire whether consideration has been given to the bill introduced by the Hon. S. W. Griffith in the Queensland Parliament providing for the exclusion of French criminals from that colony. Mr Service strongly urges the necessity of such a measure, and favours the imposition of differential tonnage duties on vessels trading with the convict settlements.

(Received September 15, 12.30 p.m.) September 15. The Legislative Couucil of Fiji has agreed to that colony joining in the guarantee of £15,000 required by the Imperial Government in connection with the appointment of a High Commissioner for New Guiuea.

[Per s.s. Rotomahana, at Auckland.] Sydney, September 4. The small-pox outbreak caused considerable uneasiness, but the. precautions takeu by the health authorities it is hoped will prevent its further spread. The last case in William street was distinctly traceable to the Orient Hotel, where the patient had been drinking some time previous. All the patients quarantined are doing well.
