WESTLAND EDUCATION MATTERS.
[united press association.]
Wellington, September 9. Messrs Seddon, Bevan, Guinness, and Menteath waited upon the Premier to-day by appointment to consider education matters in Westland.
Messrs Seddon and Bevau strongly urged that last year's Separation Act should be given effect to. Messrs Guinness and Menteath suggested that the Acts should be repealed, as the statement preferred by the Secretary of the Education Department showed that after paying teachers' salaries and committee allowance there would not be sufficient revenue to carry on the two proposed Boards. Mr Seddon said that the Hokitika Board could carry on by reducing salaries.
Mr Stout requested the deputation to come to an agreement, and acquaint him as to the Board's liabilities. The Premier said he would recommend that a loan should be granted by Government to pay the liabilities. Mr Guinness presented a petition signed by 53 creditors of the Board, praying for relief.
