The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 1, 1884.

The nomination of candidates to fill the three ordinary vacancies in the Borough Council of Kumara took place at the Town Clerk’s Office to-day, at noon, when Mr George Anderson and Mr Rudkin were proposed by Messrs Burger and Davies, Mr Henry Fitzsimmons by Messrs Gilbert Stewart and J. Hannah, Mr M. Maloney by Messrs Hannan and W. Davidson, and Mr George Stewart by Messrs Henry Gibson and M. Davidson. The election will take place at the Town

Hall on Thursday, the 11th inst,, between the hours of 9 a.m. and 6 p.tn.

Mr T. Bracken’s lecture at the Theatre Royal on Saturday night on “The Poets of Ireland ” was highly appeciated by the ladies and gentlemen present, of whom there were a fair number, the gifted poet and elocutionist receiving many tokens of pleasure and approval. Mr Bracken will visit Kumara on Wednesday next, to make an inspection of the goldfield; and in the evening will give a farewell entertainment, with recitals from Tennyson, Lover, Burns, and Davis; and, what will be very humorous, “An Hour with Handy Andy.” The prices of admission will be reduced to 2s and Is. We have received a long letter from Mrs Pfaff in which she states that the report by Dr, Monckton that her baby was in a bad state of eruption which he considered was caused by the want of proper cleanliness, is most false. If Mrs Pfaff will look at the report again, she will find that it states that the doctor reported that the child’s eruptions were “aggravated” by the want of proper attention to cleanliness—not “caused,” as she writes. We understand the Medical Officer to the Board of Health will send in a report to the Board; meantime, if Mrs Pfaff has any complaint to make of want of attention it should be made to the Board of Health. Commander Edwin wired at 12.45 p.m. to-day : —“ Bad weather may be expected between north and west and south-west, with heavy rain soon, and glass further fall, but will rise after ten hours from now.”
