POLITICAL INTELLIGENCE.

The Parliamentary correspondent of the West Coast Times telegraphed yesterday ;—“Over sixty notices of motion were given in Parliament. The member for Kumara gave notice to ask when Government would bring in a bill to amend the Westland Education Act; also that all papers connected with the reduction in the price of water and sludge-channel regulation management be laid on the table. He also presented two petitions from the miners of Kumara, one praying for a reduction in the price of water, and the other praying that the duty upon gold be abolished. He also gave notice for leave to introduce a bill to amend the Mines Act, 1877.” The Wellington correspondent of the Grey River Argus telegraphed yesterday -

The deputation of goldfields’ members waited by appointment on Macandrew. Seddon, Pyke, Guinness, Bevan, O’Conor, and others, strongly urged the Minister to introduce the Gold Duty Abolition Bill. Macandrew replied that he had always voted for the abolition, but could not promise that Government would introduce the Bill. He assured the deputation that he would bring the matter before the Cabinet, and send an answer as to whether the Government would introduce the Bill or give facilities to a private member to carry the bill through the House. The House adjourned about three, and a great deal of lobbying has been done since.

It is expected a no-confidence amendment on the Address-iu-Reply will be moved, but it has not yet been decided who will do so. A moderate South Island member will probably be asked to table the motion.
