CORRESPONDENCE.
The Editor does not, necessarily, adopt the opinions expressed by correspondents. THE GENERAL ELECTIONS. [to the editok.] Sir—The electors of Oamaru having been charged with toadyism, from bringing forward the ex-bailiff Lord Reidhaven in opposition to an old tried representative, a correspondent in the Oamaru Mail repudiates the charge in this exceptionally candid manner:— " Those who have brought him forward care nothing for his title, nor for himself, if it comes to that. Their desire is to defeat Mr Shrirnski, and Lord Reidhaven is the instrument—l had almost written tool—by whose means they hope to accomplish the eud. As to the lord, or the country, or anything else, they care nothing, so that they succeed in displacing Mr Shrimski." The moral of the above is excellent, and shows how a constituency may be csed for paying out a personal spite if the electors are not Wide Awake, July 17, 18S1.
