HOMEWARD MAILS VIA ’FRISCO. (Received July 16, 7.30 p.m.) London, July 15. Tenders for the Melbourne Harbour Trust loan of £250,000, bearing interest at 5 per cent., were opened to-day. The total amount offered was £670,000. Tenders at £lO6 16s received 3 per cent, i and a tender above that amount will be allotted in full. The cargo of frozen meat ex steamship Iberia, comprising 8000 carcasses, has been sold at an average of 5d per lb. The meat is in good condition. (Received July 16, 9.40 p.m.) July 16. Telegrams from Aden state that the British Political Resident has proceeded to Berbera, a maritime station in the Soumali country on the African coast of the Gulf of Aden, in order to annex it to the British Crown. At a largely attended meeting of the Carlton Club, held last evening, it was resolved that Lord Wemyss’s motion for a compromise between the House of Lords and the Government on the Franchise question should be firmly opposed.

The Times to-day announces that China has rejected the demand of France for indemnity on account of the Langson affair, and that war between the two countries is believed to be inevitable. (Received July 16, 9.40 p.m.) Berlin-, July 15. It lias transpired that a meeting has been arangod between the German Emperor and the Emperor Francis Joseph of Austria. Their Majesties will meet at Gastein, Upper Austria, on the r»th prox. M. De Courcel, French Ambassador to the Imperial German Court, has been instructed to express regret on behalf of the French Government for the insult offered to the German flag in Paris yesterday. (Received July 16, 7.30 p.m.) San Francisco, July 15. The Pacific Mail steamship City of Sydney, from Auckland, June 24, arrived yesterday.
