The Christchurch coach, which had being able to cross Kelly's Creek on Friday, arrived at 10 p.m. Saturday, bi-ing-ing East Coast, Australian and Brindisi mails.
Notice is given that through an extraordinary vacancy in the Borough Council an election for a borough councillor to fill the vacancy will take place on Saturday, the sth July. The nomination of candidates to fill the position will take place at noon on Monday next, the 23rd inst. Mr O. W. Anderson is the outgoing councillor.
Persons to whom the Westland County Council are indebted for services or supplies during May are requested to call at the Council Chambers on Tuesday* (tomorrow) for a settlement of their accounts. A number of works in the various ridings of the County will shortly be put in hand by the County Council. Tenders for them will be invited in a few days.
The Union Company's steamer Mahinapua left Lyttelton at 5.15 p.m. on Saturday for Greymouth, calling at Wellington. She ia announced to leave Greymouth on her return voyage to-morrow.
The Argus reports :—"The friends of Mr Carlo Mori, of Orwell Creek, will regret to learn that during the past few days the poor fellow has been at last compelled to succumb to weakness caused by disease and its result—starvation. From a private letter wo learn that he is now
unable to leave his bed, and cannot take even a drop of water for sustenance. The end cannot be far off."
