THE MARIBYRNONG PLATE AND VICTORIA DERBY. (Received June 6, 10 p.m.) London, June 5. The Australian cricketers commenced the eighth match of their tour to-day, at Manchester, where they met eleven representatives of Lancashire. An excellent wicket was pitched, and the ground was in first-rate order. The Australians went in first, and succeeded in putting together 174 runs, towards which Bannerman contributed 36 (bowled), M'Donnell 49 (1.b.w.), and Murdoch 39 (bowled). The Home team then went to the wickets, and when stumps were drawn for the day their score stood at 109, with five wickets down; J. Bugg being not out for 46 to his credit. Giffen for the Australians bowled splendidly, and succeeded in doing the hat trick. During the day rain fell at intervals, and play was occasionally interrupted. The attendance of spectators was very large. (Received June 7, 1.5 a.m.) Sydney, June 6. A sculling match has been arranged between Hanlan and Beach, to take place on the Paramatta River, for £2OO aside. The date,' terms, and general conditions are to be decided on Monday next. The New Zealand footballers were entertained at the Town Hall to-day by the Mayor of Sydney. Lecky received a nasty wound on the eye during the match at Newcastle
yesterday, and it is doubtful whether he will be able to play to-morrow. (Received June 7, 1.30 p.m.)
June 7. -tor the Maribyrnong Plate 108 horses have been entered, and for the v.R.C. Derby 125 have been nominated.
