The disputes which since the early part ot this year have existed between the Porte and the Cretan Christians are now assuming a more serious phase, and the ill-feeling is dapy intensifying. Photiades Pasha, Governor of the island, has resigned office on account of the present state of affairs. (Received June 4, 0.55 a.m.) Cairo. June 2. Telegrams from Berber state that in consequence of the recent successes of the garrison, the rebels have raised the siege, and retired from the neighbor-
hood of the country round Berber, which ia now in a state of comparative quiet. (Received June 4, 1.10 p.m.) New York, June 3. The first National Bank, which suspended during the crisis last month, has now resumed business.
