CRICKET. AUSTRALIANS V. GENTLEMEN OF ENGLAND. (Received May 31, 5 p.m.) London, May 30. The cricket match, Australians v. Gentlemen of England was resumed today at Lord’s, in the presence of an enormous number of people. The weather was splendid throughout the day, and the wicket again in excellent condition. The Australians, with 83 runs to their credit and five wickets down, continued their first innings, Blackham and Bonnor, the not outs of yesterday, taking their places at the wickets. The former only added 6 to bis score (making it 42), when he was bowled } but Bonnor made a good defence, and run up another 28 before given out. The rest of the team (Scott, Palmer, and Boyle), only contributed 18, and the innings closed for a total of 135. (Received June 2, 0.55 a.m.) May 31. The cricket match Australians versus Gentlemen of England was resumed and concluded at Lord’s to-day. The Home team, having one wicket down for 17, and requiring to make 128 to.win the match, put together that number with the loss of only six wickets, thus winning by four wickets. The attendance of spectators was again very large, the greatest interest being taken in the match. The weather during the day was fine. (Received June 1, 1.10 p.m.) In the second innings of the Gentlemen of England the highest scorers were Grace, caught, 20 j Read, caught, 28 ; Steel, not out, 35 : Diver, not out, 22.

THE NEW ZEALAND FOOTBALLERS IN SYDNEY. MELBOURNE CUP ENTRIES. (Received May 31, 8.15 p.m.) Sydney, May 31. The New Zealand footballers played a match this afternoon on the Association Cricket Ground against a strong team representing New South Wales. The weather was splendid, and the ground hard and in excellent condition. The attendance was large, fully 3000 being present. The New Zealanders played splendidly, aud were victorious by two goals and one try to nil. The winners’ first goal was obtained by Warbrick, by an excellent kick from the field. The second was secured by W. Y. Million, from a touchdown obtained by Tairoa, who, throughout the afternoon, showed magnificent form. The try was also secured by Robertson. (Received June 2, 12.15 p.m.) June 2. The football match on Saturday between New Zealand and New South Wales was a very hollow affair, the local men being over matched at all points. The New Zealanders played with great brilliancy, their tackling and passing being perfect. Melbourne, May 31. Entries for the Melbourne Cup close on Monday, June 2nd.
