Intelligence has been received here that the troops comprising the garrison at Berber have mutinied and fraternised with the Arab rebels, who are now reported to be in possession of the town. It is further stated that great excesses are being committed by the followers of El Mahdi, and that the townspeople, being now without protection, are taking refuge or flight. REVOLUTIONARY PLOTS IN SPAIN. GREAT RAILWAY DISASTER. A TRAIN PRECIPITATED INTO THE GUADIANA. MANY PASSENGERS KIT.LET) AND INJURED. (Received April 28, 9.55 p.m.) Madrid, April 27. Widespread plots of a revolutionary character have been discovered in various parts of this country, and the information which has reached the authorities shows that plans for an extended rising are being rapidly carried into effect by the leaders of the conspiracy. A serious disaster has occurred at Ciudad Real. While being crossed by a train, the railway bridge over the Guadiana was precipitated into the river. Many passengers were killed, and a large number seriously injured. It was subsequently found that the bnttresses of the bridge had been cut through, thus causing the catastrophe. It is believed that agents of the revolutionary party were the perpetrators of the outrage. THE ANNEXATION OP PACIFIC ISLANDS. OSMAN DIGNA RESUMING HOSTILITIES. EGYPTIAN FINANCIAL AFFAIRS. [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE.] London, April 20. The Pall Mall Gazette expresses the opinion that the seizure, by the French, of the New Hebrides would constitute a casus belli between England and France. The London Echo advises that the Australian colonies should avoid all appearance of bluster in reference to France and the Pacific. April 21. Osman Digna is reported to be recruiting his forces in Eastern Soudan, with a view of resuming hostilities against those places which have hitherto opposed the rebellion. It is further reported that the British Government intends that the Congress, which is shortly to meet to consider Egyptian financial affairs generally, shall also take into consideration the feeling of anarchy which is extending, not only in Cairo, but throughout the country. The Duchess of Edinburgh has been safely delivered of a daughter.
