The fourth day’s races of the Australian Jockey Club’s Autumn Meeting came off to-day at Rand wick. The various events resulted as follows : Rous Handicap : One mile three furlongs.—Regulator 1, Archie 2, Aimee 3. Place Handicap: One mile and a-half.—Empress 1, Hypatia 2, Glencoe 3. Nursery Handicap : Six furlongs.— This race resulted in a dead heat between Lord Exeter and lolanthe. > < RACING AT HOKITIKA. ♦ Under the auspices of a committee of gentlemen, and Mr James Evans in particular, there was another day’s racing at Hokitika last Saturday. The attendance was considered good, about 600 people; and the totalisator put through half that number of pounds. The following brief particulars are from the Times : Publicans’ Purse— .£lo; 1 mile. Lillipie, Bst. 4!b. ... 1 Maggie, 7st. 10a. ... 2 Parnell, Bst. 1086. ... 3 Hop-picker, 7st. 2ft». ... 0 Talent, Bst. 71b 0 This was a good race between the first two, the result being somewhat of a surprise, the favorites coming last. There was £64 on the totalisator, dividend £7 3s. Town Plate Handicap— £3o; 11miles. Lady Harris, Bst. 105). ... 1 Marie Stuart, Bst. 55). ... 2 Happy Jack, 7st. 85). ... 3 Lady Grey, Bst, 46). ... 0 This was a good race. Lady Harris with her heavy impost not being expected to pass the judge first. However, excellently ridden by Newman, she came in an easy winner. Lady Grey fell when going well, but was fortunately uninjured. Totalisator £119; dividend £2 10s. Selling Race— £lo; 1 mile. Barney, (Barton), Bst. 121 b. 1 Fritter, 7st. 65) ... 2 Birdie, 7st 3 Cateshy, 7st. 71b. ... 0 Harkaway, 7st. ... 0 This race was won easily by Barney, who soon after the start assumed the lead and was never headed. Totalisator £ll9, dividend £2 3s 6d. The next race was a Hurdle Handicap race, which resulted practically in a walkover for Early Bird, Levant being scratched, and Maggie refusing to take the hurdles.
