THE AGENT GENERALSHIP OF NEW ZEALAND.
The London correspondent of the Auckland Herald writes :—“ Sir John Hall, the late Premier of the Colony, is still residing at Dresden, Saxony, but is not in good health. I hear, however, that he contemplates a short visit to the Colony this year, and will probably leave here in August or September next. I have heard his name mentioned in connection with the Agent-generalship of New Zealand. It is toleraldv C'-' i.i bit Sir Dillon Bell will iifir. cM.iiinii.. HtiMi' 'lns venr to fill the officH, m i ;» ue v man will have to be selected. s ir John Hall would make a vei ry efficient and painstaking agent for the Colony, but it is very doubtful whether his health would stand the strain. Sir E. W. Stafford, who is resident here, has certain claims upon the colony, and could well fill the position, but he is not likely to be an applicant for it. Mr Walter Johnston is also considered to be in the running, but it is doubtful whether he would have the same prestige as cither cf the Other two,”
