[united press association.] Christchurch, April 18. Robin Hood's consultation on the C.J.C. Autumn Meeting gave the Great Autumn Handicap first horse, L 675 net cash, to a threshing machine | hand at Greendale; second horse, of L 270, to a railway guard, at Timaru ; | and third horse, of L9O, to a coach builder at Leeston. In the Easter Haudicap, the first and second prizes, amounting to LIBO and L9O, went to a saddler in Colombo street and to a publican respectively. Both are residing in Christchurch. Wellington, April 18. A young man, Walter Robinson, a journeyman baker, was found dead yesterday in a gully off Nhauranga line, ile had come to town with a cart, and on returniug, it is believed, he iell off and down the embankment. Hu leaves a wife and three children. The Manawiitu arrived to-day from Greymouth. She left Westport about two o'clock on Wednesday morning, drawing 9ft. aft, and bumped sixteen times crossing the bar. It was like forcing her through a lot of furrows. She made the trip from Nelson to Wellington in 12 hours. The Orawaiti was almost high and dry when the Mnnawatu left, with her coal discharged and the beach lined with boys and girls picking it up as fast as it conies ashore. Dunedin, April 18. Sir Julius Vogel is still suffering from gout badly, and moves about with difficulty. He states that his main object in visiting New Zealand is for the benefit of his health. He will remain in this colony for at least four months, and will then probably visit Australia. Auckland, April 18, The city authorities have instituted proceedings under the Public Health A.-.-t against a person who sent the t-.lothing of a typhoid victim to auction, for sale.
