The Hospital Fete Committee met last evening at the Town Hall ; present— Messrs Pearn (in the chair), Nicholson, Burger, Mansfield, Ziegler, Light, Payne, O'Hagan, Palmer, Hope, Watson, Jones, and Anderson. Accounts to the amount of £ll7 were passed for payment, subject to correction by the Supply Committee. It was resolved that Mr Hillier be informed that all persons who assisted at the fete gave their services gratis, and the Committee know nothing of his being hired. The total receipts to date amounted to £321. The meeting was adjourned till Wednesday next, at 8 p.m. An entertainment is to be given at the Odd Fellows' Hall, Stafford, this evening, in aid of the funds of the Hokitika Hospital. The first part to be a concert, after which the entertainment will conclude with an amusing dramatic farce entitled "Mr Green's Snug Little Business." The following additional chessplayers have signified their willingness to join the Chess Club : —Messrs Kroener, Pierson, Connell, Todd, Johnsen, and Hewett. 1 The Christchurch coach arrived this afternoon, at the usual hour. Commander Edwin telegraphed urgent yesterday afternoon:—"Bad weather is expected between north-east to north and west after ten hours, with sea heavy after sixteen hours. Glass will fall again soon. The Greymouth Easter Fete Committee met on Thursday evening for the purpose of settling up accounts, when it was found the gross proceeds amounted to £249 12s 4d. Accounts, amounting to about £l2O, were passed for payment, and two gentlemen were appointed to audit the general statement. The Argus says:—"There will be a balance of £125 left for the Benevolent Society, which, with the £ for £ subsidy from Government, will bring the total to £2so—a very nice sum to have in hand. We believe the full balance-sheet will shortly be published." Messrs Girdwood, Lahman, and Co. will sell by auction on Monday next, at the Preston Yards, Greymouth, nice quality bullocks, prime cross-bred wethers, and fat and store pigs. The Cromwell Argus reports that a fatal mining accident occurred at Nevis on April 4, the victim being Hugh Munro, a much-respected resident in the locality for the past 1G or 17 years. It seems that Munro and his mate Taylor were working in a deep tail-race on their claim, and without warning a mass of stuff came away from the side, falling on both men. Taylor was, fortunately, able to extricate himself, and, finding that he himself could not rescue Munro, ho harried off for assistance. On getting L'lCic it was found that the unfortunate man was already dead, the lower part of his body being dreadfully crushed. On the accident being reported to the police, Sergeant M'Leod proceeded to Nevis, and had the body brought to Cromwell, where an in<;ii(!sh v.™ h-hl '>:.! 7J«>n<by, the vordict stated, iviuur.j was 50 years of aye. unjaauied, tuid a native of Scotland. ;
