The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 1884.

The grand Easter fete for the benefit of our local Hospital tabes place on Monday next. Charitable purposes have long been associated in these colonies with Easter. In Victoria, P C;W-; S-; - ay rr i.orally been sot ap«rt in nearly all the

chinches for collections in aid of hospitals, and is called Hospital Sunday. And towns and cities in most other Australian colonies have adopted the same system.

The programme of the fete which is to be given on Easter Monday has for some time been published, and cannot fail to have met the eye of all our readers. It shows at once how replete are the arrangements which the large committee have set themselves to carry out for the benefit of the funds of our local institution, and the care of those who either by sickness or accident are brought within its walls for succour or relief. At 10 o’clock in the morning of next Monday it is intended that the Friendly Societies, the Rifle Volunteers, and the Fire Brigade will muster at Dillmau’s Town, and, headed by the Catholic Brass Band, walk down in procession to the Kumara Recreation Ground. A spacious booth has been erected, and a platform for dancing constructed. The programmes of the sports and of the dances are published, and will no doubt attract many competitors and dancers. There will be a swing boat and merry-go-round for the little ones, besides numerous other modes of enjoyment. Those who desire to contribute more directly to the charitable cause will find a fancy goods and curiosity stall, where they can obtain almost article they may require, many of them the work of fair ladies who for weeks past have been devoting their spare time and late hours that so they might contribute some useful memento to aid in the good cause of succouring the helpless and the infirm. In the evening there will be a concert at the Theatre Royal, where the String Band and new instrumental and vocal talent will be heard. Mr A. Miller will conduct the orchestral arrangements, and Mrs Williams and Miss Skilton will act as pianists. There will therefore be some mode of enjoyment and some way of aiding the institution at the same time suited to everyone. At present the weather does not seem favourable; but we must hope for the best, and we trust to see the grand efforts of the Fete Committee in this charitable undertaking well supported by the public.
