In the House of Commons to-day, the Hon. Mr Gladstone, in reply to questions, stated that Government had not yet decided what course to pursue with regard to the dispute which had arisen between Nubar Pasha, the Egyptian Minister, and Clifford Lloyd. In the House of Commons to-day, the London Municipal Reform Bill, which was announced in the Queen’s speech, was introduced and read a first time. The measure provides for the extension of the City Corporation so as to embrace the whole metropolitan area. The office of Lord Mayor is to be retained, but the Court of Aldermen is to be abolished. The House of Commons adjourned to-day for the Easter recess. The Right Hon. John Bright is now better, the severity of congestion of the lungs having abated. It has transpred that the Queen pro-' ceeds to Germany under medical advice, her physicians having stated that her Majesty’s health requires her to take a change. April 9. The Daily News, in its issue to-day, states that Government urged General General Gordon to evacuate Khartoum, but that he has declined to do so, being confident of bringing his mission to a successful issue. (Received April 10, 3.20 p.m.) Cairo, April 0. Despatches are now to hand from General Gordon, dated 30th March, which state that the rebels in. the neighborhood of Khartoum number under 2000. Desperate fighting has taken place between them and the Egyptian troops forming the garrison at Khartoum, The latter have been victorious in all the encounters, and many rebels have been killed. General Gordon further reports that 200 Bashi-Bazouks (Kgvptian irregulars), having proved mutinous, were at once disarmed, wi d;s urbance.

The Divorce Court bus sustained the legality of the marriage of Earl Euston, heir of theKuke of Grafton, with Kate Cook, a courtesan, which he disputed on the ground of her having been previously married. The Court held that Kate Cook’s previous marriage was illegal, owing to the fact that the man she married had already a living wife. Earl Euston is well known in Australia, where he lived for six years as a Government officer under the name of Fitzroy. Colonel Nugent, in a lecture, has urged the construction of fortified stations at Albany, Australia, and Now Guinea. He also urged the necessity for unity of action between Australia and England, in providing defences necessary for the Empire. The AgentsGeneral were present. The marriage of Prince Louis of Battenburg is postponed till May. The Oriental Bank’s year’s profit is reduced to £2600, after assigning £76,000 for. debts and depreciation. The Directors propose to reduce the nominal value of the shares by one-half so as to strengthen the reserve fund. A scheme is projected, with the Duke of Manchester as Chairman, for the purchase of lands in Carpentaria.
