Auckland, April 1. Tawhiao and party leave for Sydney to-day en route for England. His Excellency the Governor returned from Waikato yesterday. He sent a message of condolence to the Queen through the Secretary of State, relative to the death of Prince Leopold. Melvin Dawson, a lad aged 14, was killed at KLawaka, through the kick of a horse.
The City of Sydney and Rotomahana had an ocean race from Sydney to this port. The City of Sydney left Sydney Heads at 3.40 p.m. on Thursday, and the Rotomahana at 5.25 p.m. on the same day. The Rotomahana caught and passed her opponent on Friday afternoon, and reached here at 7.35 o'clock last night, the City of Sydney arriving here at 1.30 this morning.
