BRITISH TROOPS TO FORTIFY HANDAK. (Received March 18, 0.55 a.m.) Cairo, March 16. Telegrams from Souakim state that Admiral Hewett and General Graham have conferred with the leading Sheiks of the loyal tribes, and that a reward of £IOOO has been offered for the rebel leader Osman Dignah, alive or dead. (Received March 18, 2.30 p.m.) March 17. A detachment numbering one thousand British troops is about to start for Handak, a town on the Nile midway between Assouan (on the Nubian frontier) and Khartoum. The troops will fortify a position there with a view to check any advance of the rebels in that direction.
