At the Supreme Court, Hokitika, yesterday, the evidence of a large number of witnesses for the Crown in the charge against the man Donohue for murder was taken. Most of them were crossexamined by Mr Guinness, the prisoner's counsel. So far from Donohue exhibiting any symptoms of insanity, the West Coast Times states that—" During the day the prisoner's demeanour was collected, and he took great interest in the proceedings, frequently advising with his counsel." Elsewhere we give the material points of the evidence which has not (as well as some which has) been already published by us, or at least so much of it as our space will permit. All the evidence has been taken, and at the time of our going to press, counsel for the accused was addressing the Court in his behalf. The County Council met at 2 p.m. yesterday, and adjourned until Wednesday, the 19th, at the same hour. Captain Edwin wired yesterday evening, " bad weather is expected between north-west and south-west; glass rising within ten hours, and considerable sea." °
