MR MILNER STEPHEN AND THE “POWER OF HEALING.”
[to the editor.] Sir—My name appears in to-day’s issue as having witnessed one of the cures effected by Mr Milner Stephen. Asan incorrect inference might lie drawn from the statement, I may state that I spent an evening in his company, that I found him to be a pleasant-mannered gentleman, of rare intelligence, who possessed a umpt undoubted and
enthusiastic belief in his power of healing ; but I failed to see what I considered a satisfactory proof of the efficacy of his treatment. A man who seemed to have suffered from some old-standing chronic pain in his knee, had it blown upon through a silver canula, and, when told that the pain was gone, looked so puzzled and dubious before saying “ he did not think it was there now ” that it left me uncertain as to how far he was the victim of his own imagination. I shall be pleased to hear through your columns of my being wrong, and that on leaving the room he did not find himself as bad as he entered it.—l am, sir, yours, &c., F. A. Monckton. Knmrra, March 3, 1884.
