[REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.] By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. THE AMERICAN SCAB-INFECTED SHEEP. NEW SOUTH WALES TAXATION SCHEME. VISIT OF VICTORIAN POLITICIANS. THE MARCHIONESS OF NORMANBY. (Received February 20, 1.30 p.m.) Sydney, February 20. The authorities have decided that the recently-imported American sheep which were found to be infected with scab shall be destroyed, and all traces obliterated. Arrived, yesterday morning, the Union steamship Wakatipu, from Wellington. (Received February 21, 1 a.m.) In the Legislative Assembly to-night, the Government announced that the taxation proposals made by the Treasurer in his Budget statement had been withdrawn, except in so far as the increased duty on tobacco was concerned. The Government proposed to meet the expected deficiency in revenue by retrenchment to the extent of three quarters of a million sterling. In addition to this they believe that the Customs revenue will show an increase of £170,000 during the year.
(Received February 20, 9.55 p.m.) Melbourne, February 20. The Hon. D. Gillies (Minister for Railways) and the Hon. G. B. Kerferd (Attorney-General) are passengers for Hew Zealand. The Marchioness of Horroanby, who has been indisposed since the 3rd inst., is progressing favorably towards recovery. Arrived, this morning, the P. and O. steamship Sutlej, with the Brindisi mails dated London, January 11.
