KUMARA HOSPITAL AND FETE.
A special meeting of the Kumara Hospital Committee was held in the Town Hall last evening, at 8 o'clock. There were present—Mr Burger (in the chair), Messrs Davidson, G. Watson, Stockman, Payne, Hope, and Ziegler. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read aud confirmed, the special meeting was adjourned, and Delegates from the various Friendly Societies met, in conjunction with the Hospital Committee, to make arrangements for carrying out the fete at Easter for the benefit of the Hospital funds. Messrs J. Light and Palmer represented the Oddfellows, Messrs T. Jones and G. Anderson the Foresters, and Mr Wiesner the German Society. Messrs Hannan, Burger, Davidson, Stockman, Hope, and "Watson were appointed to act on behalf of the Hospital Committee. The Hospital Secretary (Mr L. J. Spyer) and Mr Stockman were requested to interview Messrs Keech and Malloy to ask for the use of their paddock for the Hospital fete at Easter. The Secretary was deputed to write the Volunteers, the Fire Brigade, and the Catholic Brass Band, asking their cooperatiou at the fete at Easter, and also to appoint each a delegate to join with the present Committee in making arrangements for same. The first meeting of the Fete Committee was appointed to be held on Wednesday, 27th inst., after which the meeting of delegates was adjourned till then, and The Hospital Committee resumed their ordinary business. The outward correspondence was approved of, and the inward read and received. Mr Henry Burger was empowered to sign cheques as Treasurer during the absence of Mr William Nicholson. An account from Dr. James for £Q was ordered to be paid. At this stage of the proceedings Dr. Monckton, the Acting Surgeon Superteudent to the Hospital, having requested permission, exhibited a model of an accident bedstead which he had introduced to various other hospitals. It was designed specially to relieve patients suffering from accidental causes. The Committee signified their approval of the design, and referred the consideration of its introduction to the Kumara Hospital to the next monthly meeting of the Committee. Ziegler and Burger were appointed to act with the House Committee in the matter.
Receipts for two half-yearly tickets were handed in by Mr Hope, for self and Mr Walmsley, £l. The Secretary was instructed to write to all parties whose names had been submitted to the Committee requesting payment of their accounts. This concluded the business of the meeting.
