WESTLAND COUNTY COUNCIL.
♦ The Council met in the Chambers yesterday, at 2.30 p.m. ; present—The Chairman (P. Dungan, Esq.), Messrs Seddon, Grimmond, Rose, Hirter, M'Whirter, M'Goldrick, Gumming, and Jack. The following business pertaining to this district is taken from the West Coast Times : TAIPO BRIDGE. A telegram was read from Mr C. Y. 0 Connor, stating that nothing could be done re Taipo bridge until the arrival of the iron pillars from London. Received. Mr Seddon moved that Mr O’Connor be asked why the timber work was not gone on with.—Carried. KAPITEA BRIDGE. Mr Seddon moved “ That tenders be invited by next meeting for tarring the little Kapitea bridge.”—Carried. MIGNONETTE FLAT. Mr Seddon moved, “That the County Engineer be instructed to report upon the track asked for by the miners and residents of Mignonette Plat.” Carried. dillman’s road. By leave, Mr Seddon withdrew the following motion That tenders by the February meeting for the widening of the road from Dillman’s Town to the Christchurch road, as per plans and specifications be prepared and submitted to the Hon. the Minister for Public Works, in accordance with the Roads and Bridges Construction Act.” STAFFORD CEMETERY. Mr Seddon moved, “Thacthe County Chairman be authorised to convene a public meeting at Stafford Town at an early date, for the purpose of ascertaining the view of the residents of the disrict, as to the desirability or otherwise of having the control and management of the Stafford Cemetery handed over to the Westland County Council. Also that the County Chairman interview the trustees of the cemetery and ascertain from them their wishes on the subject, so that should the residents desire the Council to have control of the cemetery that it shall be with the consent and approval of the trustees.” Carried.
