The public feeling against foreigners becomes very bitter in China in time of war or threatened war. and it matters not what nation they may be at war with all foreigners are treated with hatred. This feeling has culminated again in a disturbance —our cablegrams does not say in what part of China, but it will probably be in the neighbourhood of Canton, Hong-Kong, or Tonquin where 200 Christians have been massacred, and some mission stations totally destroyed. The intercolonial cricket match Victoria v. New South Wales was concluded yesterday, and was won by the representatives of New South Wales by 195 runs. New South Wales 109 289 = 458 Victoria 109 154 = 2G3 New South Wales wins by ... 195 Of late years they have played two intercolonial matches each season, one at Mell;HU!i:\ t'lO ofi;;T at ■"•ydney ; and we time uvw cricket had become
almost as popular with the public in Australia as horse-racing, this practice of two matches in a season will be continued annually. In December last the Victorians won the match by three wickets and 1 run. Taking all the intercolonial matches between these two colonies into account since they were started in 1856 we find there have been 32, of which Victoria has won 18, and New South Wales 14.
