The Kumara Times. Published Every Evening. MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 1884.

Nominations for the election of five persons to constitute a Licensing Committee for the Licensing District of the Borough of Kumara will take place on Monday, the 11th inst. ; and the poll for such election (if necessary) will take place on Wednesday, the 20th. The day for the nomination of candidates to fill an extraordinary vacancy occasioned by the retirement of Councillor Simmons is fixed for Wednesday, the 13th inst., and the election (if necessary) on Monday, the 25th. The Kumara Rifle Volunteers will parade for quarterly inspection at the Adelphi Hall, to-morrow night at 8 o’clock. Capt. Webb, the adjutant of the district, will be present to inspect. Under a warrant of distress issued out of the Resident Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth, in the case of Arnett and Seabrook (builders and contractor) v. the Westland Board of Education, Messrs Nancarrow and Co. are advertised to submit to public auction to-morrow, the desks, wood and iron frames, maps, diagrams, stationery, clocks, tables, blackboards and other school requisites, at the Public School, Greymouth. The Ross Borough Council have voted £SO to their presnt Mayor for the year. The West Coast Times states that the last mail from England brought news of the death of George Gibson, a miner well known on the Kanieri in the early days of the Coast, where he worked for several years in company with his four brothers, in one of the rich golden claims. It is said that the members of Fisher’s Combination Company, who were passengers for the north by the Charles Edward on Saturday last, have dissolved partnership, and that henceforth all are free to follow their own devices. A somewhat serious accident happened to Mr Charles Hansen, of Greymouth, at Nelson Creek on Saturday last. It appears (the Argus reports) that he was doing something about the sawmill which he owns there, when a truck got loose and came down the incline, knocking him down and going over him. When picked up, it was found that some of his ribs were fractured, besides sustaining a number of bruises and a general shaking. As a buggy happened to be passing at the time, he was put into that and brought into town, where he was attended by Dr. Morice. It is understood that his injuries are not very serious. The bowling match Victoria v. Invercargill was played at Invercargill on Thursday last, and resulted ia a victory for the local team. Total scores —Invercargill, 113; Victoria, 74. The visiting team are being entertained at a banquet in the Prince of Wales Hotel to-night.
