«. [new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Nelson, January. 16. The annual conference of delegates from the fire brigades forming the United Association was held here today, Captain Lightfoot, Nelson, (president). After some discussion, it was resolved to adhere to the annual instead of triennial meetings. It was stated that there are 1200 firemen in the colony. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Captain Amos (Timaru); vice-presidents, Captain Cummings (Wanganui) and Captain Hughes (Auckland). Mr Robinson (Dunedin) was re-elected secretary. It was resolved to hold the next conference in Christchurch, and have a brigade demonstration there next year. It was also resolved to apply to Government'for assistance. The conference then closed with the usual vote of thanks. Dunedin, January 17. The Primitive Methodist Conference is closed. It was resolved in view of an early union to discontinue the publication of the Primitive Methodist and to support the New Zealand Wesleyan.
