(Received January 15, 12.50 p.m.) London, January 14. Tenders are invited for a loan of four millions for the colony of Victoria, bearing interest at 4 per cent. The minimum is fixed at par. A rival gathering of Parnellites and Orangemen having been announced to be held at Blacklion, County Cavan, Ireland, a proclamation has been issued by the Executive prohibiting the proposed meetings, and a force of one thousand troops is held in readiness . with a view of preventing any possible disturbance. (Received January 16, 11.15 a.m.) January 15. The steamship Duke of Westminster, which went ashore at the Isle of Wight on the 3rd inst., has been successfully floated and brought safely to port. (Received January 16, 0.50 a.m.) Paris, January 14. The Marquis Ts6ng, Chinese ambassador, has returned to this city to-day. Cairo, January 14. It is currently rumoured that the Egyptian Government has almost decided to retain Khartoum, on account of the great difficulties which have arisen in connection with the proposed evacuation of the town by the Egyptian troops. The matter is understood to be still under the consideration of the Cabinet, expected that a decision will very shortly be arrived at. (Received January 16, 11.15 a.m.) January 15, Intelligence is to hand from Khartoum that the tribes inhabiting the districts of the White and Blue Nile, in the extreme south of Soudan, have openly declared their allegiance to El Mahdi, and are joining his ranks in large numbers daily. . [SPECIAL TO MELBOURNE AGE.] London, January 3. A large body of military was placed under arms at Dromore. The Orangemen are said to have begun the affray. According to the triple agreement between Germany, Austria, and Italy, the latter is exonerated from assisting Germany should she engage in war with France. The French press condemn the treaty. Fifteen thousand Egyptian troops arc availble for defence. The London press oppose France interfering in Egyptian affairs. The names of Dr. Croke, Archbishop of Cashel; Rev. Dr. Walsh, President of Maynooth College; and the Rev. Mr Morgan have been submitted to the Pope from whom to select a successor of the late Archbishop Vaughan. The Freeman’s Journal insists that an Irishman shall be appointed. Professor Owen, the celebrated anatomist, has been knighted.
