[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Auckland, December 31. The house of Mr Knight, fruiterer, residing at Newton, was broken into last night, and a casb-box containing £4l stolen; also, a watch-chain and other goods, of the total value of £9l. The burglar effected an entrance by breaking the back window, and took the cash-box from a room where Mr Knight was sleeping without awakening him. Edwards started a six days’ walking match at 1 o’clock this morning against three local men—A. and J. Hendry and Huckster—for £IOO a-side. A, Hendry went on first to walk till midnight, then to be relieved by bis brother. At 11 p.m. the record stood—Edwards, 99 miles. Hendry succumbed a 4 10.30 exhausted, having covered 86 miles.
