[new ZEALAND PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Dunedin, January 5. The fifth annual conference of the United Fire Brigade Association will be held at Nelson on Wednesday, 16tb inst. The following Brigades intend sending delegates Napier, 1; Spit, Port Ahuriri, 2; Masterton, 2; Wanganui, 1; Nelson, 2; Hokitika 1; Christchurch, 1; Timarn, 1 • Naseby and Port Chalmers will be represented by proxy. January 6. As Dr. Coughtrey was going down the Portobello road in a buggy on Saturday night he came upon a dray with the horses standing still in the middle of the road. On examination he found the body of the man lying under the dray with one wheel upon his throat. The body was that off Alex. M'lntosh who was serving with Hugh M‘Lean. An inquest will be held to-morrow. Wellington, January 6. No eligible applications having been received for the surgeonship of the Wellington Hospital, Professor M'Kellar, of the Otago University, who is here on a visit, has consented to take temporary charge. Kate Boyle was committed for trial for infanticide.
