(Received June 11, 11.20 a.m.) London, June 9. Another of the Phoenix Park prisoners, Timothy Kelly, was hanged to-day at Dublin. A portion of the cargo of frozen mutton, ox Garonne, was sold by auction today, and realised an average of sd. The meat was iu good condition.
Hong Kong, June 9. Intelligence is to hand from Shanghai that M. Courie, the French Ambassador to Pekin, has arrived at Shanghai and has had a conference with Li Sung Chung, the Chinese Prime Minister, on the subject of the state of affairs at Tonqain. No particulars of the interview have transpired. Telegrams have been received here from Tonqnin that the French garrison at Hanoi has beeu reinforced by 1500 men. Alexandria, June 9. Daoub Pasha, who was recently found guilty of having instigated the burning of Alexandria in July last, and was sentenced to death, was executed to-day. [special to press association.] London, June 5. The Prince of Wales Stakes was run to-day, and won by Lord Falmouth's Galliard, Duke of Hamilton's Ossiah secoud, and Lord Bradford's Laocoon third. June 6. The Earl of Rosebery has resigned his position as Under-Secretary for Home Affairs, as the Home Secretary, Sir Vernon Harcourt, finds the pressure of business in the House of Commons so great as to render it necessary that he should receive assistance by naviug the Under-Secretary also in that House. Lord Rosebery will probably receive the first seat which becomes vacant in the Cabinet. Mr J. T. Hibbert, M.P. for Oldham, succeeds Lord Rosebery as Under Secretary for Home Affairs. The Moscow Telegraph has been suppressed in consequence of its advocacy of Liberal measures. The smallest of the two gunboats ordered by the Government of Victoria was launched to-day at Ellswick, in the presence of Colonel Scratchley, Mr T. Archer, Agent-General for Queensland, Mr Cashel Hoey, and a large number of other visitors. Lady Armstrong performed the christening ceremony, naming the boat the Melbourne. The Catholic hierarchy in America are urging their flocks to disavow all connection with the Irish Land League. (Received June 9, 2.30 p.m.) Melbourne, June 9. Mr Service's colleagues fully endorse his views regarding the proposed annexation of New Hebrides. The Argus approves of the same, and insists that the Colonies should contribute to the expense of annexation. The Age has despatched Morrison, who recently walked from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Melbourne, to explore New Guinea. The Age suggests that the proposed Colonial .Exhibition in London should be held under the auspices of the Colonial Institute. (Received June 9, 8.20 p.m.) It is reported here that the ColonialSecretary of Queensland has received a telegram from Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, stating that Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor of Queensland, died at Aden on the 3rd inst., while on the voyage to England. The Colonial Secretary has received a telegraphic despatch from the Home Government, announcing the death of Sir Arthur Kennedy, late Governor of Queensland, at Aden on June 3rd. Sydney, June 9. The Western Railway extension from Numeralla to Nyngan a distance of 46 miles, was opened to-day. The total length of the line now open from Sydney is 393. His Excellency the Governor unveiled the statue of the late T. S. Mort, which is erected opposite the Exchange. A vast multitude of people were present, and an eloquent oration was delivered by the Hon. W. B. Dalley. (Received June 11, 11.20 a.m.) June 11.
